Setting Up a Nursery in a Small Nairobi Apartment: Space-Saving Tips

Living in Nairobi often means making the most of limited space. If you live in an apartment where the "second bedroom" is barely big enough for a bed, don't worry—you can still create a dreamy, functional nursery.
You don't need a massive room; you just need smart furniture choices.
1. Choose a Multi-Functional Cot
The cot is the centerpiece. Instead of a bulky wooden bed that does nothing but sleep, look for Convertible Cribs.
- Storage Cots: Look for cots with drawers underneath. This is prime real estate for storing diapers, wipes, and blankets without taking up extra floor space.
- Grow-with-me: Some cots convert into a toddler bed later, saving you money in the long run.
2. Vertical Storage is Your Friend
When you can't build out, build up! Install floating shelves above the changing table for lotions and powders. Use the back of the door for hanging organizers (perfect for shoes and socks).
3. The Changing Station Hack
You don't need a dedicated changing table that takes up huge space. Buy a Changing Topper that sits securely on top of a normal chest of drawers. Once the baby is out of diapers, remove the topper, and you still have a useful dresser.
4. Lighting Matters
Avoid harsh "tube lights" (fluorescents). They wake the baby up fully during night feeds. Use a small bedside lamp with a warm bulb, or stick-on dimmable LED lights for a soft glow.
